Rughetta!

Rughetta, originally uploaded by mysterybridgers.

Today at the farmers market we found true rughetta! It is a wild arugula that prior to today we had only tasted in Italy. It is also known as wild rocket. It is more peppery than regular arugula and is much more tender. As far as I am concerned it is far superior to regular arugula in every way. This rughetta will be used to make pasta and a pizza. And then we will have to see if they have it again next week at the farmer's market. Personally I think that we should have a truckload of this stuff delivered to our apartment weekly. When I was in Rome I had everything "con rughetta." In fact I became somewhat of a joke to the local restauranteurs in my quest to eat rughetta on everything.

Hello:
I incidentally found your blog when I searched on the internet with the keyword "rughetta". I've been addicted to this lovely herb after spending one month in Italy 6 years ago. At the end of the trip, I managed to smuggle some seeds back with me. It is easy to grow and requires little care, though it doesn't grow well during the hot summer here(Taiwan). I think San Francisco is a perferct place for planting this herb. I know there are some US websites selling seeds of rughetta, such as www.neseed.com. Good lucks on finding your own source of this fabulous herb!

Yay for rughetta love! After two weeks the rughetta disappeared from our farmer's market, but we hope that it will return when the weather gets warm again (supposedly rughetta loves heat). We have some rughetta seeds that we bought a long time ago, but I am not much of a gardener, but I can learn if I need to. Thanks for the info!
